HOw do you put a wee picture in your profile so it shows at the side beside your name when you post a message?

I'm buggered if I can get it to work!

I assume you've got as far as clicking on the profile link ^^ up at the top of the screen and you've found the avatar section at the foot of that page?

well, you need to ensure that the image you are trying to use complies with the forum rules i.e. max dimensions 100x100 pixels and max filesize 6KB

once you have checked that then either browse to the file on your local machine or enter the url of the file hosted on the web, then click submit.

that should do it.

Thanks

load the image into any photo editing program and you can re-size it, either in terms of physical size (number of pixels in width & height) or file size (number of bytes in saved image - determined by image resolution/quality)

I would offer to do them for you, but my main machine is down right now and I'm using a laptop with limited software on it.

if you are still struggling to resize your pic, then if you attach the pic you want to use to this thread I'm sure someone will be able to do it for you.

Strange? It is a 100 pixel pic.

Try this one its 99 pixels and see if that works.

FRM - your pic posted above is in excess of the 6KB file size limit, which is the reason it is rejected when you attempt to upload.

Nathan's version of it is within the limit at under 3KB, but a lot of the resolution has been lost in the process.

I used http://www.myimager.com to optimize the image to 95% of the original quality which gave me the attached file which is under 6KB but still retains most of the definition of the original.

Thanks Nathan thats seems to have done the trick, the picture loses sharpness but I don't think that can be helped.

Thanks again for your help.

This should do it then. Better res and still just over 3kb!

your car as the focal point of the pic is pretty small as it is - bringing it down to under 100 pixels makes it almost disappear!

here's a couple of variations
