Hi - any good recommendations on insurance companies and agreed value policies. I'm looking at 2-3k per year, or much less if it goes into storage in the winter. Would be good to hear if there are any good stories of company's paying out like they should.

Hi,

I've been with these guys since buying the NSX and they have always been good and competitive.

Mine is on 4k per annum (they do in 2k steps), track use (unlikely to use), screen cover etc with agreed value of £45k

They will also offer discount with proof of NSXCB member ship

regards, Paul

I am currently going through a claim and don't want to post any details until I get a full resolve. If your looking for a company that will pay out as they should then avoid anything underwritten by RSA!

Been with ClassicLine since I bought the car. Good service and agreed valuation was easy to arrange. Plus the policy I have will do trackdays for an extra fee...CCI though I suspect may include them as standard.

Hi Paul,

Insurance time again! I just got off the phone with Competition Car Insurance who tell me they cannot do an agreed value and have never offered this service so it's back to Classicline insurance to see if they will raise my previous agreed value to 30K.....I reckon that's about correct for my '96 manual with 66K miles FSH etc....what do you reckon?

Hi Mathieu,

30 to early 30's would seem about right in the current market.

Ref the agreed value, I've had this since 2006 and simply moved with the market (in both directions). Maybe its only for early policy holders.

So long as you have it recorded you have at least got a starting point together with the usual market adverts to support the discussion. Hopefully its one we never have to have!

regards, Paul

CCI is not "agreed value" as such. It's an indemnity policy. As I understand it, it is a "like for like" policy. You give them a value of your car and should you unfortunately need to make a claim that may involve a full payout, you need to "prove" the value of your car... This would involve adverts of as similar a spec car as possible on the open market....

That's at least how it was explain to me...

Which is little different to any other (non-agreed-value) insurance policy around...it's just marketed differently. Cute...

Classicline has just confirmed an agreed valuation of 30K so I'll be using them again for this year in the hope I won't have to make a claim. Thanks for the replies.

No takers for Le Mans classic?

Cheers,

Re Independent Valuer
Insurance time has come around again - only doing about 500 miles of summer use these days so wanted the cheapest, found Performance direct via Moneysupermarket.com who offer agreed value with KGM Insurance, at very competitive rates for limited mileage 2,000 miles. My car is a 1994 3.0L manual coupe and I put down £22k, now they are asking for the usual 6 photos plus independent valuation from valuer, specialist dealer, or car club, I've not had this before Do we have anyone that can do this?

Hi Andrew,

you out try an hpi check, I've used in the past with good results. Alternatively it's a case of collecting adverts to demonstrate the cost of replacement should the worst happen.

you could point them to various threads on NSXCB, however they may see such valuations as a little biased.

Can't help on the independent valuation, but...

My car is a 1994 3.0L manual coupe and I put down £22k

It must be very ropey to be worth so little! I'd revise that to at least £26000 (assuming 100,000 miles or so).

I got my last valuation from my local Honda dealer.
Classic line and Footman James were both happy to accept that.

Agreed. I've got a '96 manual coupe with 107k, albeit with a fair amount of refurb/refresh work done over the last 4 years. Car's not perfect (there to use, not polish), but is straight and looked after. Agreed £26k just last month without any quibble, and actually wonder if I've sold myself slightly short.

So take your own car's condition and adjust from there...

Many thanks for the helpful suggestions, the car has done 81,000 miles and is in reasonably nice condition but there are some paint chips and the drivers seat and carpet is showing it's age. Very encouraging to hear that it might be worth £26k as that is exactly what I paid for it almost 14 years ago. I will see if I can get Chiswick Honda to give me a valuation.

I took my NSX to Cheshire Oaks Honda today to get its annual service book stamp and told them in advance that I'd like them to give me a valuation which I could use for agreed value insurance. It's got 73k miles, HPI clear, no issues unmodified car. Their helpful salesman told me it was worth £14,250 based on the CAP valuation. I said, no I think you misunderstood. I'm not looking for what you'd give me as a part exchange, what would you a Honda dealer expect to get for it? He said they'd ask £16,995 and expect to get £14,250. I naturally asked him to let me know if they get one in. He backed up his valuation with the red 2003 on AT, even after I pointed out it was a Cat D. Regarding similar cars on PH which are ~£30k "Those are just asking prices. At the end of the day, a car's only worth what somebody will pay for it".
Very frustrating.

I switched to agreed value 2 years ago with Adrian Flux for peace of mind. Last year on renewal they refused to increase it. Right now I feel underinsured. Thanks for all the shared experiences in this thread. I'm going to be shopping around this year before my policy comes up for renewal.

Nothing against the service department at Cheshire Oaks. The NSX technician there is a helpful guy. But don't go there if you're hoping for an intelligent opinion on the value of your car.

That's ridiculous!

Based on recommendations here, I am insured with Competition Car Insurance, with an agreed value of £40k (unmodified 2001, pre-ugly lights, NA2 manual coupe with 54,000 on the clock) - I din't need to get independent verification of the valuation, they seem to know the market and accepted my word for it. Mileage is limited to 4000 miles per year, which is plenty for me, and the premium is ~£330, which is pretty reasonable I feel.

That is just insane. I wonder when they last sold an NSX?

£24460 for a 2000 coupe, they must have increased the prices over the years. I bet they would find fault though.

Very disappointed with CCI this time round, had trouble getting someone to answer their 0844 telephone number, & when I finally got through they had me down for less NCB than I should have been entitled to so I may have paid more over the previous 4 years I've been with them??
Their quote was for a little over £500 - SDP, 4k miles, £450 excess, £75 screen cover, track day cover, euro cover.

Happily I tried out Classicline as recommended above and they matched plus AA cover and a lower excess of £250. Underwritten by Red Star with £30k agreed value for £302. Happy with that.

All modifications declared for both quotes too.
