Hi,

A very excited Newbie here, having just bought a gorgeous red '91 NSX from a member of this forum.

Everything is fine with the car with the exception of the windscreen de-mister which doesn't seem to activate. When you press the green screen de-mister button it lights up and you can hear the fan working but you cannot feel any air coming out of the screen vents.

Any ideas to what is wrong?

Many thanks,

Phil

Hello & welcome.

Presumably teh HVAC otherwise seems fine, there are two likely problems:

First is the servo that moves the air distribution flap is knackered. That affects most old Hondas - & new Civics.

Otherwise, there could be a problems within the Climate Control Unit itself.

Item 3 above, IIRC.

Hello Nick,

thanks for for the response and the diagram. Is there anyone you can recommend who would be able to fix the problem?
i would be reluctant to take this in to a garage unfamiliar with these cars.

cheers,

phil

Have you run the diagnostic mode on your CCU? That could point you in the right direction. Have a look in Kaz's blog or the online manual for instructions.

EDIT: This will help you: http://www.daliracing.com/v666-5/info/acura-nsx-service_manual_91/12_climate.pdf

Hi, Phil.
Congratulations on becoming the proud owner of NSX and welcome to NSXCB.

Before going any further, could you clarify the following points?
The reason I ask this is that I received exactly the same question from several new owners who only had the car for a few days and all of them told me that the windshield defroster (de-mister) didn't work when they pressed the button on the Climate Control Unit (CCU).

In your post you wrote;

...................................... When you press the green screen de-mister button it lights up and you can hear the fan working but .......................

They were pressing the button with the green LED because the logo looked as if the air is blowing towards the windshield and they thought the amber/orange switch was for the rear defogger (this is on the steering satellite column on our NSX).

You need to press this amber switch on CCU (as in the above photo) in order to get the windshield de-mister working.

If you are certain that you pressed the amber switch and green was just typo in your post, then as NSXGB suggested, please carry out the Self Diagnosis test and also the Function & Operation check as per attached pdf file below.
If you click on them, it will open the pdf reader.

During the Function & Operation check, please make sure to use your hand, foot, face, eyes, ears, etc to confirm the actual air flow from multiple vents simultaneously in each test modes.
We can start from there.

From time to time, I saw wires/loom for aftermarket parts such as the security devices, ICE, etc obstructing the operation of the Vent, Mode, Air Mix, etc motors.

As a side note, for any new owners, please take a look at the following two posts.
They are also in the 'Sticky' section of the Technical Forum.

NSX Technical and Service Information Index (http://www.nsxcb.co.uk/showthread.php?8732-NSX-Technical-and-Service-Information-Index)

NSX Technical and Service Information Index 02 (http://www.nsxcb.co.uk/showthread.php?9724-NSX-Technical-and-Service-Information-Index-02)

These will cover most of the basic questions you may have on our NSX.

Also, if you visit the Blog section of this site and open any one of the post, you will see lots and lots of categories at the right window.
It will help you in finding some of the topics you are looking for.
There is also ‘Tag’ search feature as well.

Probably the easiest thing to do is to enter the search term in your search engine window with the option as site:nsxcb.co.uk .

For example, if you enter
heater problem site:nsxcb.co.uk

in your search engine such as google, bing, etc, you will get lots of information only from nsxcb site.

Cant add to the discussion about your heater problems, but welcome to our merry little group. Are we likely to see your beloved NSX soon?
