Anybody know how to use the serial numbers to identify whether the gearbox (if housing the original gears) are close ratio (short gears) or the long-geared version.
I am aware the NA1 NSX from 1991-1994 in the UK are 'long-geared' and from 1995-1996 are 'short-geared' and 6 speed from 1997 for NA2.
JDM NA1 are all 'short-geared'...? Singapore or other Asia delivered cars?

Just want to identify via Gearbox serial number...is that possible?

Hi,

My car was licensed the first time in Germany, in 1997 but it was built late 94 or early 95...

it came with short gears from factory.... i can get my SN in a couple of days.

As far as I know, J4A3, J4J6, J4E3, SR8M series all have short gears.
J4A4 has long gears and for UK market, it was used on 91 and 92 models only so from 93 onwards, you should have the short geared one.
If you get the gbox serial no. and the country spec, you should be able to double check it on the parts system by looking at the parts no. for the main shaft, 3rd gear, etc...
