Hi everyone,

I've been a bit quiet on the forum lately, work and some other bits and pieces have stopped me getting the enjoyment I want to out of the car. This should be thoroughly corrected in a couple of weeks, I'm travelling down to Split for a week and have decided to drive over the alps. Should be an epic, I'll do a write up once it is through.

Broadly I've got three days to get down there, and three and a bit on the way back. On the way there I'm thinking:
Day 1: Drive to Alps
Day 2: Take in many great passes
Day 3: Cruise out and to Split

(We've got a week to chill when we're there..)

On the way back:
Day 1: Cruise to San'Agata
Day 2: Good passes and get to Monaco for the start of day 3 :-)
Day 3: Some of the great passes in the southern Alps
Day 4: Get back to Blighty

I've been lucky enough to do Route Napoleon/Mont Ventoux and Millau last year. Any thoughts on route, where to stay or whether I'm biting off more than I can chew would be appreciated. There are two of us, both happy with long days and sharing the driving.

Draft route below!

Sounds like a great trip Rich :)

Those first 3 days at 9.5hrs, 9hrs and 11hrs are HUGE and that doesn't include fuel and lunch stops let alone encountering traffic or getting lost. It can be done but you'll be absolutely knackered. I'd at least cut days 2 and 3 in half to give yourself a chance to appreciate the roads, scenery etc.

I'm driving down to Monaco in a couple of weeks time. Starting and finishing from our house in Burgundy I'm taking the "Route Des Grandes Alps" (Geneva to Monoco) and am planning 2 stop overs between Dijon and Monoco, 3 nights in Monaco, then back via the Route Napoleon with 1 stop over, at either Sisteron or Gap.

Cheers

Mark
