Hi Paul and the rest,
Yes its that time of year. I have been lurking inthe background so a quick update to un-interested parties.

My car was supercharged and promptly decided it needed a rebuild. Went for the full works from the
SoS catalogue including the Laminova charge cooler, new pistons, etc.

Upside, a much more racy engine and more Bhp and stronger internals. Exhaust note to die for.
Downside, the modified car maladies, poor idle map at present, excessive oil use, possibly blow-by somewhere, re-current minor faults from
an engine that's not been assembled by Honda. Not the power I was promised.

Would I recommend it? On the three or four track outings since the re-build, yes. Any other time, no. I miss the bullet proof car I had, now have a bullet instead.

Currently in transition between Kent and West Sussex, hope to have a home in RH13 soon.

Maybe we could have a meet some time so you can all think, Harry Enfield style, 'now you don't wanna do it like that....you wanna do it like this..'
Keeping it alive man

What ECU did you go for in the end?
I had similar problems on my ITB'd Integra and used a guy from the States who comes over regularly to run tuning sessions (Mase) I also used him on my S2000 when I was running an AEM ECU with good results. He has as NSX now (or did) so next time he comes over then might be worth him having a look.

I thought about getting into ECU tuning but think I'll stick with the day job for now.

Sounds like a handful. Can you tell us a bit more about the new engine spec; compression/differences etc. also, what kind of power are you running now? Final question; where do you normally track?

Cheers,

James.

RH13 is not far from me, so could be up for a meet sometime. Or come along to the Sussex mini meets at Staplefield just off A23.

Simon, its an AEM and yes mapping it has been a pain. They couldn't get it idle without running rich, so its currently idling with a CO of 10%, which is ridiculuos. I would certainly like to find an experienced AEM mapper in the Southeast.
James, I have the SoS low compression forged pistons with smaller diameter SC pulley, uprated connecting rods, bolts, oil pump, oil ooler, Laminova charge cooler, Wideband O2 sensors, virtually everything from the SoS site on engine internals. Supposedly running around 400bhp but I am not sure. I didn't get a dyno chart or reading after all that. Its quicker but its so long since I drove the car as an NA that I can't remember whether its 400bhp faster or not. I have had a couple of evening sessions at Brands and two short sessions at Bedford. I get penalised for noise at Bedford so can't go flat out everywhere and last time it was very wet anyway.
I have to say when its on the move, the car is outstanding. The Type R suspension handles the power without any problem and HiSpec brakes work well with it. R short gears, final drive and LSD also make it a track tool, but when its idling or off track, its a bit of dog. Kaz has worked some magic on the idling by sorting the earthing but its an ongoing project really.
Leigh, good to see you still knocking arouns. Any special stripes at present? I would like to come to a meet some time but at the moment the car is one place and I'm somewhere else so can't get to it easily. Plus, injectors are leaking on one side so a bit stuffed again.
Amo, what bloody language you speaking, I can't decipher your code man!

Sup mo fo

sorry to hear you're having trouble, after hearing though pretty decided to keep things standard. I'd love more power but not at the expense of hassle. I hope it gets sorted for you, plenty in the states get it sorted so no reason yours wont prevail given the right tuner.

Good to hear from you... all the best.

Hi Mo,

If you drop me a line or call me, I can introduce you to someone who will resolve your mapping issues. Bob is 'the' tuning specialist for the Scooby boys, mapping many 500+ hp cars. He is familiar with the AEMS. He will need to know what you have on the car, injectors, FI & other engine mods.

Running rich will lead to wash through if not addressed so happy to intro you so you can enjoy the full benefits of your upgrades

regards, Paul

As long as 'Bob' is his real name, I know of a few tuners who have worked with the 'Scooby boys' who have destroyed many a Honda.
I might have even bought an AEM ECU off one of them and had to deal with the company who make the AEM as AEM themselves couldn't even sort it.

Ok Paul, I'll be in touch after I have made a few local enquiries. It seems from the mapping on another supercharged being much easier, that earthing may be part of the problem. Since Kaz improved my battery earth the car has idled more normally but air/fuel ratio is still way too high. I need to fix my leaking injector rail before I can drive the thing so its still just sitting there.
Appreciate everyones input and interest.
