I don't know if any of you know but Honda UK opened up an order book for the new NSX (or whatever Honda are going to call it). So now you can go to your local Honda Dealer and put a deposit down for one.

So guess what I did today.

Is there an indication of a price yet?

James, just because this is what you do on a weekend does not mean that other people do it as well :D

In a nut shell NO. But the big money is on the same price as the R8 (£88K) and current 911 Carrera S PDK (£86K)

That would tie in with what the Honda bod told us at the Geneva show...

Do we know how the dynamo engages on the front wheels yet? My Raleigh grifter had one and you had to flick a lever. Perhaps there's some kind of remote hidden behind the Vauxhall front grill.

Cheers,

James.

I spoke to my dealer, got sorted for a weekend of fun then went to see Mr Honda. £5000 deposit required for a car with no performance figures or price indication.

Latest Evo quotes £160k... at that money they can forget it! I'll buy a second hand one for 80k when it's a year old!

I agree it HAS to be R8 and 911 money or else it's going to be de ja vu.

Paul, are you planning to keep the black one as well?

Well if they want 80 k I might be game at 160 a junior Maca will do. Honda needs to wake up. I bet if they go 160 or even 90 they will do a facelift and drop 10k in a couple of years. :-)

Think of a number - everyone else is.

FWIW, the Septics (where the car is planned for production) are predicting around $100K ish, so it'll be the same in Sterling as always.

Devo Mag undoubtedly detests it already because it's not a Porsche so it must be crap.

Just like every other new car on the planet then ;) I'm not sure why anyone would think a Honda be any different?

I'm not a Honda'iste and additionally this type of car (hybrid) does nothing for me so it's rather irrelevant... even if I did have the cash. I do wish Honda well with this endeavour though.

Cheers

Mark I live the way Golf carts take off so if it is anything to go by acceleration should be mental to 60 theme the engine takes over. But and is a BIG BUTT I have driven the SLS AMG and is the most exciting car I have had the pleasure of being in including a Lamborghini 670 SV!

It was fascinating and odd to the see / hear the Toyota Le Mans hybrid take off at the FoS.

I shot away from the line in near total silence, and then after a hundred yards or so, the engine chimed in.

Interestingly (for folks who are interested in such things!) the all conquering Audi e-tron had engine and electric motors (I assume) running right from the get-go.

Having grown up with a w123 in the family I have always love the three pointed star v8 cars even if the cars plummet and get driven by idiots and drug dealers and African dictators!!!

My dad had a w123 and then the w124, great old car, w124 was one of best models they built, my dad had over 200k on the clock when he sold it, I have a cousin who still has an 89 w124 300D and that has over 500k on it!

Isnt overpricing it one of the mistakes Honda made first time around?

funny sudesh, my father had a w124 300d with an aftermarket turbo, he traded it in for a 4x4 so he can tow his larger trailers.
but it was fantastic to drive, the turbo really helped and the quality of the interior, not a squeak for a 1993. lovely carpet too, so easy to clean and such a comfy car to go on a long journey in. when he was ill i used to drive him to hospital appointments in it as he wouldn't sit in my mazdas lol. too small he said inside and loved the space of the merc.

it had 169000 miles on it and was sold right away, with the w124 6 cylinder diesel engine, he was told it was the best mercedes made, much better than the one that came after it.
but he loved that car, they are really nice to drive but for the older generation me thinks.

the highest recorded 300d is in france and had been round the clock and was sitting on 380000 odd km so about a million km.
it started after a few turns as had been sitting about, great engine!

My understanding is that they lost money on every car sold, therefore hard to see how, from a pure business perspective, they overpriced it.

It was far more technically advanced, yet cheaper than the equivalent Ferrari of the time.

It was thus only really overpriced in relation to its proletarian badge.

The same thing will doubtless happen again. Whether the hybrid stuff is really more advanced than a 2015 Ferrari, will be a moot point; technology is otherwise a lot closer these days.

Hi Paul,

I think most of those takers are Honda Dealerships? I think Solihull Honda has put a 5000 deposit down also.
