I took my NSX on track and I LOVED IT! Here are a few pics..

http://www.180sx.co.uk/media/trackday_1.jpg

I shined up the car ready for it's outing then it's off to Bedford Autodrome for a Novice day.

http://www.180sx.co.uk/media/trackday_2.jpg

The car somehow passed the strict noise test *just* at 99db. That is a PRIDE V2, NA2 manifolds and test pipes. Because of this I was advised to ease off at the sound checking points to avoid being black flagged for noise violation.

I arrived with a mate in his EVO 6.

Then two more friends in a 200SX and a DC2 arrived and we headed into the circuit.

We did some last minute tuning on my tyre pressures in the pits.

And here are the gratuitous on track shots.

The weather rained hard all day but it was still terriffic fun and when it got real hard a lot of the more serious cars headed into the pits and I hammered the track time :) Plenty of interest under and over steer moments.

Well done! Never had my NSX on a track, but would like some nice photos like those. Nice car too! Rare being black and JDM model. One thing I would do if it was mine is, remove the front fogs, they do absolutely nothing for the NSX, old horrible dated looking, heavy monstrosity lol Also they look to have some discoloring or rust build up behind the glass.

Thanks Sudesh :)

Agree completely on fogs, they will be coming off when I get my na2 side skirts and rear valance painted and fitted.

Next step is replacing the rims, I'm aiming for some bronze te37's just need to do lots of calcs to clear stop tech calipers!

Track shots look really good!

So the Porker wheels are coming off. TBH they don't look too bad on the car. What size are they, 18 & 19?

Also what size tyres you have? The rears look very wide, 275 or 285?.

Tokyo-Joe

The wheels are 18 x 8j front on a 225 35, which is too wide a tyre to be honest, it's starting hitting an arch on big bumps.

The rears are 18 x 10j on a 265 35. Very easy fit on the rear. I will put these and the 20mm hub converters on the for sale section as soon as I decide and fit the new ones.

It looks staggered due to the natural ride height biase.

Nice pictures. Taken by the resident photographer?

Tokyo-Joe
25-04-2012, 08:13 AM
The crap ones are mine and the pro ones I paid the resident photog for :)

I must say I really rate the circuit and team, everything is clean and slick, the staff and marshalls did a fine job keeping everyone safe despite the rain and some less then sporting on corner overtakes from a couple of idiots in a vx220 :)

Glad you had fun. Bedford is a great circuit for your first few track days, clean (unlike airfields), fast and safe (as they can be), if a little flat. :)

Personally I really like the look of your car on the porky wheels  225's on the front are not too big, it's more likely the overall offset you have due to the wheel/spacer combo.

Are you sure about the facelift side skirts? I agree the later rear valance looks better but IMHO the side skirts look too "heavy" on a pop-up. Also, a short registration like yours will fit on one line of the rear plate. It makes the car look (even) wider/better? Like this... (pic of me at Bedford attached)

I do have brake envy tho', what brakes do you have on the car?

Cheers

Mark

Oh I do like that plate Mark, very nice :)

I am a fan of the skirts I like the subtly wider waistline. Regarding the wheels I subscribe to the flush offset look so with a thinner tyre I could still look flush without the occasional arch rub :)

I have stop techs front and rear with two piece discs, not sure on the diameter. They performed amazingly, zero fade lap after lap.

Those JDM cars always remind me of mine having ugly headlight washer jets. lol

:D if it helps calm the hate they are a huge red pain in the ass when trying to spec wheels..

Nice one! I'm always amazed at how dated the fogs make the NSX look, was one of the first things to go on my car. As someone who finds it hard to like aftermarket rims on the NSX, those Porsche rims don't look the worst! Rears seem to sit nice and love that wider look. Fronts maybe sit out a bit too far unless it's just the photos. Nice barking system your going for. Post some pics when you round to installing the kit and brakes.

That's this stupid iPad! I though it made like easier, turns out its making my spelling worse lol I though it might be keyboard calibration but no idea how to reset or calibrate it, if that's even possible.

Sorry to go off topic.

Personally, I love the front fogs. A matter of taste and I use mine all the time as driving lights whether technically this is correct but since they are no brighter than standard front driving lights I have no problem particularly in Europe where often daylight running lights are mandatory. Each to one's own opinion.

Car looks great on track and I like the wheels but I could live with the front rubbing

Tokyo-Joe
25-04-2012, 11:14 AM
The rub is due to the aggressive stance plus the wide tyre, a 215 35 on that 8j would be perfect :)

:D if it helps calm the hate they are a huge red pain in the ass when trying to spec wheels..

Not really ;) I can kill my standard brakes (Project Mu pads with deflectors) with a couple of 10/10ths laps but by just backing off a touch (10% ish) in the braking zones they will stay with me for the 20 min sessions I like to run. It would be nice to REALLY go for it under brakes tho' :D

It's too late for this time but in case you get the bug to do more track days, remember to turn off your A/C on track. Even though the clutch should disengage at full throttle, extended track use (high engine revs) will kill the compressor bearings. Ask me how I know :(

It's odd that using fog lights all the time is illegal but sidelights is fine and soon DRL's will be compulsory??? The vagaries of UK legislation ehh.

Cheers

From S2K:

....The wheels that have caught my attention are the new Enkei PF-01 wheels. They are available in what seems a perfect s2000 fitment!!

FRONT 17x8 +50 5x114.3
REAR 17x9 +60 5x114.3

http://www.blog.enkei.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/ENKEI_PF01_black.jpg

About 1/2 the price of Rays or Mugen, albeit not forged nor as light.

I cannot vouch for the backset with big brakes in that (almost) perfect offset, but it's nice that there might ba an option at last.

Porsche wheels on an NSX!!

Sad to admit it, but the car looks great on them... and big thumbs up on taking your track on NSX! Wish more would, they are a lot of fun. Are you aiming to do X a year or just every now and then?

I wish we didn't go so far with our original NSX (now in bits in a crate!). It was such a good track day car in the below spec. It had coilovers, big brakes and some NSX-R bits, but despite the cage had a full interior and was a properly usable road car, but was quicker than a GT3 RS on circuit and FUN. I'd love to have the car back in that state again and fit some ITBs just to give it some oomph.

Blimey Rob, that has to be 6 or 7 years ago.

I would love to do more track days but I think this year I'm just going to be to busy :(
